When climate risks become a business issue

Climate risks have long been a reality for many businesses. The real challenge lies in understanding their financial implications specifically and deriving the right priorities from them. This is precisely where UNIQA Sustainable supports you: risks are made visible on a location-specific basis, economically tangible, and translated into concrete measures.

The challenge: Which risks are truly financially relevant?

brotsüchtig stands for regional quality, organic craftsmanship and sustainable production. It is precisely this strength that also makes the company sensitive to climate-related changes. Together with UNIQA Sustainable, brotsüchtig wanted to understand what concrete financial impacts climate risks could have on their own business – and how to counteract them in good time.

We were aware that climate change was relevant to our business. However, it was only through the analysis that we realised the specific financial impact that heatwaves and heavy rainfall can have. It is precisely this transparency that provides us with the basis for taking the right action now.

The solution: transparency rather than uncertainty

With a Climate Risk Analysis UNIQA Sustainable made the relevant risks for the brotsüchtig sites visible and derived concrete options for action. This created a well-founded basis for better risk assessment, prioritisation of measures, and targeted strengthening of operational resilience.

Proof at a glance

  • Up to 265 days of operational interruption in an emergency
  • Potential losses running into six figures
  • Specific priorities for preventive measures

Do you want to know which climate risks could become financially relevant for your business?

The result: specific risks, clear priorities

The analysis identified three key risk areas: heavy rainfall and flooding, heat stress, and supplier failures. It became particularly clear that the site-specific flood risk alone could lead to an operational interruption of around 265 days and financial damages in the six-figure range in the event of an emergency.

On this basis, specific measures were developed to reduce risks in a targeted manner – ranging from emergency and business continuity planning, through cooling and energy management, to strengthening the supplier base.

The concrete added value for a brotsüchtig

  • Better basis for decisions can assess and prioritise climate-related risks more tangibly and with better data today.
  • Targeted Planning Rather than relying on general assumptions, we now have specific, prioritised next steps.
  • Greater operational resilience: The measures identified help to systematically reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen the capacity to take action.
  • Strategic added value: The climate risk analysis also creates a sound basis for addressing regulatory requirements such as the CSRD early and in a structured manner.

Those who understand risks early can actively shape the future.
